| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
| COMFORT & SAFETY HOW BEGINNER FRIENDLY ARE THE TOURS? Very! Many of the people who paddle with us have never kayaked before. Our boats are stable, comfortable, and easy to use, and we provide comprehensive instruction on the beach before your tour leaves. Experienced kayakers are also welcome to join our tours. HOW SAFE IS KAYAKING? A guided sea kayaking tour is one of the safest ways to experience kayaking, and we pride ourselves on offering a particularly safe and enjoyable experience. Our guides are trained to Paddle Canada/British Canoe Union standards and have thousands of hours of on-the-water trip leadership experience. We carry all of the regulated equipment as required by the Canadian Coast Guard, as well as a comprehensive range of additional safety, medical, and communication equipment. DO I NEED TO BE A SWIMMER TO PARTICIPATE? Not at all. Many non-swimmers participate in our tours, and we provide everyone, even strong swimmers, with a comfortable, appropriately sized Personal Flotation Device (PFD). All of our trips are fully guided, so there is always a guide close by for your comfort and safety. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON A TYPICAL TRIP? Our tours are a small group experience (never more than 12 paddlers), so there is plenty of one-on-one interaction with our knowledgeable guides and naturalists. ARE CHILDREN WELCOME ON ALL OF THE TRIPS? We are a family-friendly company! Rather than have a firm cut-off age, we leave it to the discretion of parents to decide if a particular trip is right for your child. It has been our experience that young children (12 and under) are better suited to the shorter tours (Harbour Tour and Sunset Tour). Please be realistic about your child's abilities, and please remember that all children must paddle in a double kayak with a parent, guardian, or one of our guides. IS KAYAKING STRENUOUS? Kayaking is a physical activity and does of course require some physical exertion, but most people do not find it to be a particularly strenuous activity. We keep all of our trips very beginner friendly and we try to set a pace that is comfortable and sustainable for the entire group. We can tell you that paddlers from ages 3 to 92 have participated in and enjoyed our tours. Our Half-Day trip of is of course our most physical trip, with our Sunset and Harbour Tours being the most relaxed. If you have any doubt as to whether or not kayaking is suitable for you, or if you suffer from a medical condition, we strongly encourage you to consult your physician before participating in this or any physical activity. ARE THERE WASHROOMS/CHANGEROOMS NEARBY? Both are conveniently located right next to the Beach in Trinity. WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? You do not need any special equipment or clothing to participate in our tours. We provide everything that you need, including splash jackets, paddling gloves, and waterproof cases for your cameras and other personal belongings. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? We encourage our guests to dress comfortably in casual clothing, similarly to how you would dress if you were going for a light hike or other outdoor activity. Lightweight, synthetic fabrics are preferred over heavy cottons and denims. It is a good idea to bring sunglasses, a hat, and an extra layer such as a fleece, windbreaker, or sweater (extra clothing can be stored in a dry compartment in your boat). Any comfortable footwear such as sneakers or sandals will do - our guides will launch and land your boat on dry land to keep your feet dry. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS RAINING? Our tours usually go ahead if it is raining - in fact rain in Trinity often brings especially calm and serene paddling conditions. We have 100% waterproof jackets and sprayskirts, so you can stay quite dry, even in heavy rain. CAN I BRING MY CAMERA? You are welcome to bring your camera along, and we provide waterproof camera boxes that will protect your camera between usages. If you would rather not bring your camera along, we are pleased to offer a keepsake 5x7 photograph of your kayaking experience for only $5. MAKING RESERVATIONS ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED? Reservations are not required but they are strongly recommended, particularly during July and August. If you want to "take your chances" you can try meeting us at the beach in Trinity 30 minutes or so before any of our scheduled departure times. ARE PRIVATE TRIPS AVAILABLE? We occasionally receive requests for private bookings for family events, business groups, & honeymooning couples (what could be more romantic than a private sunset tour?). We do our best to accommodate such requests. The minimum charge for a private Half-Day Tour is $250, the minimum charge for a private Harbour or Sunset Tour is $150, please contact us for full details. WILL I GET BACK FROM MY TOUR IN TIME FOR THE TRINITY PAGEANT, DINNER THEATRE, ETC.? We encourage our guests to take advantage of the many activities and attractions in the Trinity Area. To this end, we offer a variety of departure times so as not to conflict with other activities. Our Half-Day tour will get you back in plenty of time for the Trinity Pageant, our Harbour Tour will get you back in plenty of time for Dinner Theatre or an evening play, and our Sunset Tour will give you the full day to enjoy hiking or other activities in the area before your Kayak Tour. WHEN SHOULD I SHOW UP FOR MY TOUR? Please meet us at the beach 10 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT? We accept cash (Canadian and U.S.) , Interac, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. |
